Michael Maclear Papers 1945-1998.

This collection of Vietnam related materials consists of Michael Maclear's drafts for his book The Ten Thousand Day War: Vietnam, 1945-1975; drafts for the episodes of his television series with a similar title; interview transcripts and background information, analytical documentation, photographs, films and videotapes relating to the Vietnam War. The collection contains more than 2,200 photos, 1930 through the 1970s, relating to all aspects of the war, and historical photographs dating from Ho Chi Minh's activities as a young man. The box and folder descriptions in quotation marks are from Maclear's notes to the collection.

Born in 1929 in London, England, Michael Maclear came to Canada in 1954. In 1955 he joined the CBC television news service and became producer of Canada's first weekly television news programme, "Newsmagazine". He became a foreign correspondent, reporting on Cuba as Fidel Castro took over, China during the Cultural Revolution, Czechoslovakia during the Soviet Union's invasion.
